The Han Solo anthology film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, ten days prior to the theatrical release of the film.
According to Deadline, the second Star Wars anthology film will be receiving a special screening at the annual film festival, which will be taking place from May 8 until May 19. Solo debuting at Cannes marks a slight departure from the norm, as the previous three entries in the massive franchise, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, all had their premieres in Los Angeles.

However, Solo: A Star Wars Story will not be the first film in the Star Wars franchise to screen at Cannes, as 2002’s Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith both screened out of competition at the festival, with the latter’s screening being its official premiere as well. Whether Solo will be included in the competition film roster, which has yet to be finalized, remains to be seen.
Directed by Ron Howard from a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett. The film opens May 25.
