ABC Has No Plans to Cancel Agents of SHIELD

Although ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t air new episodes until summer 2019, fans can rest assured that the long wait doesn’t mean the end of the show is in sight.

According to TVGuide, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey confirmed S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s sixth season will consist of 13 episodes instead of the usual 22, with an expected summer 2019 premiere date. Dungey also made sure to stress that the show isn’t in danger of getting the axe.

“I think the last season we just had, Season 5, was their creatively strongest yet,” she explained. “So I don’t, at the moment, have any plans to think of Season 6 as the last season.” She also revealed that the summer 2019 premiere doesn’t have anything to do with what’s going on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since she isn’t given Marvel’s movie plans in advance.

Even though fans might have to wait longer and will get fewer episodes, they can rest easy knowing that Season 6 will just be a continuation of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s evolving storyline and not the beginning of its end.

Airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Henry Simmons, Ian De Caestecker, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Elizabeth Henstridge.
