Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is finally expanding its way across the country. The legendary movie theater has now announced construction for Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles and will soon start on Alamo Drafthouse Lower Manhattan, the first location for the borough.
According to the press release, Alamo Drafthouse Los Angeles will be an “11-screen theater located in downtown urban center The Bloc, and is set to open in the second quarter of 2019.” The Los Angeles location is also currently hiring for several positions, including a general manager, marketing manager, creative manager and a head chef.

Alamo Drafthouse Lower Manhattan will have 12 screens “in the Financial District at 28 Liberty, and is expected to open in the third quarter of 2019.”
The new locations will be like the original in that will host “a diverse mix of blockbusters, indies, documentaries, foreign language films, repertory classics and unique special events.” The theaters will also have 4K Barco laser projection, luxury recliners and surround sound. The theaters will also have 35mm changeover projection “so that both classic films and new releases can be experienced in glorious celluloid.”

“Independent releases make it or break it on opening weekend in New York and Los Angeles. We are extremely excited to be able to meaningfully support a wide array of amazing independent films in these two important cities,” said Tim League, the founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.
Each location will also have Video Vortex stores with free rentals for customers. The Vortex Video locations will also have full-service bars and sell products “board games, collectibles, movies, and apparel from Mondo and other brands.”

“So much of film history is not available on streaming platforms. We want to make our curated archive of film classics and obscurities available for the next generation of cinephiles,” said Vortex Video manager Kat Shuchter.
Along with free rentals, a bar, and tons of cool merchandise, Video Vortex will also have live entertainment and themed nights like board game nights and trivia nights hosted by movie review site Birth. Movies.Death. The bar will also be outfitted by vintage French and Italian film posters thanks to the American Genre Film Archive.
