Batwoman Co-Creator Greg Rucka Weighs in On Ruby Rose Casting

With Ruby Rose nabbing the role of Kate Kane on The CW’s Batwoman, the character’s co-creator Greg Rucka has voiced his opinion on the casting.

Rose will debut as the DC hero in December during the annual Arrowerse crossover, which this year encompasses Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. With a solo TV series expected to follow, Rose has a lot to live up to as the socialite turned costumed vigilante.

Rucka, who in 2006 helped to introduce this version of Batwoman before writing her adventures in Detective Comics, tweeted, “Not that anyone asked me, nor does it matter, but I quite like Ruby Rose.” He implied he will reserve judgment until Batwoman actually appears on screen, writing, “Her Kate will be down to what the writers do.”

Batwoman is a lesbian superhero, and The CW and Warner Bros. Television reportedly sought out an out actress for the role; they found that in Rose.

Batwoman is being overseen by producer Greg Berlanti, and written by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries). She will executive produce alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. If ordered to series by The CW, Batwoman would join Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning on the network’s slate of DC-based shows.
