Black Panther Concept Art Has Comics-Accurate Cape

Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park has revealed a glorious look at an earlier version of Black Panther’s King T’Chaka, but this time he’s adorned with the cape we’ve seen the Wakandan superhero wear in the comics over the years.

This look throws back to modern comic events such as Civil War, Doomwar and Infinity where we saw T’Challa, T’Chaka’s son, often donning the cape as he ruled Wakanda and dispensed justice with the Avengers. In Ryan Coogler’s box-office smash, T’Chaka (who died in Captain America: Civil War) was seen in flashbacks wearing a more streamlined version of the suit similar to Chadwick Boseman’s, but as per Park’s images on Twitter, initially he proposed an option that was more decorative and comics-faithful.

This is an alternate concept design I did on the film of the former Black Panther, T’Chaka! I HAD to do a version w/his classic cape look from the comics. #BlackPanther #WakandaForever #conceptart #costumedesign pic.twitter.com/eLgHZG7aNG

We can see more emphasis on the intricate designs Park embedded into the suit, a collar that flows into the cape, as well as more gold in the necklace and torso region, so as to indicate the regal nature of Black Panther.

This alternate look comes just a day after Park revealed another iteration of how King T’Chaka would have looked in the suit, but this one focused more on him draped with a purple and green sash, which is highly reflective of the Wakandan culture we saw on-screen.

This is the approved concept design I did of the former Black Panther, T’Chaka! (T’Challa’s dad) @rodneyimages designed the top part of his tunic. Thx to @MeinerdingArt for allowing me to be a small part of this amazing film! #BlackPanther #WakandaForever #conceptart pic.twitter.com/KuUHqCyGnS
