Black Panther Passes Jurassic World Domestically, Frozen Worldwide

Movies

The reign of Black Panther is far from over. Today, the film that has already broken dozens of box office records has smashed another one — Black Panther has surpassed Jurassic World at the domestic box office and Frozen at the global box office.

The news makes Black Panther, which has raised $652.5 million domestically so far, the fourth highest-grossing movie in the U.S. of all time, surpassing Jurassic World’s $652.3 million. Meanwhile, by dethroning Frozen, which has a lifetime box office earning of $1,276.5 million, Black Panther has entered the echelon of top-ten grossing movies of all time in the worldwide market with a cool $1,279.2 million (which is bound to keep growing).

If Black Panther wants to nab any top slots, though, it has still got a long way to go. While it is feasible that the film could overthrow Titanic’s number three domestic spot at $659.3 million, it would be a much harder climb to challenge the likes of Avatar ($760.5 million) or Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million).

The international climb is even more daunting, with the number nine film being Star Wars: The Last Jedi (also still in theaters with $1,332.6 million). Meanwhile, Avatar has sat comfortably at the top spot for nearly ten years with a staggering worldwide box office of $2,788.0 million.
