Cumberbatch Hints the MCU Might Dip Into the Multiverse

Movies

The MCU has stuck to stories from the main Marvel Universe for a while now, but is the MCU ready to venture out into the multiverse? Benedict Cumberbatch seems to think so.

The Doctor Strange star let some multiverse information slip in the Thor: Ragnarok DVD/Blu-ray featurette “Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years — The Evolution of Heroes.” According to CinemaBlend, Cumberbatch talked about how the MCU has grown in the past decade and how, with 18 movies under its belt, the time might come that stories from other universes will come into the fray.

“What we’ve seen happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe is this ever-expanding coterie of superheroes,” Cumberbatch said. “And I think now we’re at the stage where this universe, even within our world, has gotten quite crowded and it’s just about to explode into other dimensions.”

It only makes sense that at some point Marvel would advance their storytelling into different universes. Remember that even though Miles Morales’ uncle (played by Donald Glover) appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Morales is technically a character from the Ultimate Marvel universe.

Thor: Ragnarok will release on DVD and Blu-ray on March 6. The film is currently available on digital platforms.
