For The CW, there may no longer be plans to expand Supernatural beyond its core series at all.
This past May, the network passed on the pilot for Wayward Sisters, the second attempt to spinoff the supernatural drama into a new series. While at the network’s presentation at a Television Critics Association (TCA) press event this past Monday, CW President Mark Pedowitz clarified why the spinoff was not picked up for a series order.

“We had only a certain number of slots this year, so it just didn’t get there,” explained Pedowitz. “It is a great franchise. I am concerned, to be quite candid with your question, Supernatural may be Jared [Padalecki] and Jensen [Ackles] and there may not be a franchise beyond that.”
The CW had previously attempted to create a spinoff from the popular series in 2014 with the backdoor pilot Supernatural: Bloodlines airing as part of the series’ ninth season. The network would ultimately pass on the Chicago-based spinoff.

In the meantime, Pedowitz confirmed there are currently no plans to end the series after its upcoming fourteenth season.
“They’ll do the show while the boys still want to do it,” Pedowitz observed.
Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. It is expected to return for its fourteenth season on October 11 on The CW.
