Dark Phoenix’s Sophie Turner Doesn’t Know Which Parts Will Be Reshot

Movies

With Simon Kinberg’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix delayed three months for fine-tuning, star Sophie Turner admits that even she doesn’t know which elements are being reshot.

The status of Fox’s X-Men franchise appears to be up in the air. Although Deadpool 2 scored big at the box office to become the third highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, things are less rosy for Dark Phoenix and Josh Boone’s The New Mutants. With a merger looming between Disney and Fox, there’s a possibility that Dark Phoenix will be the final movie with the current roster of stars.

Addressing the reshoots, Turner told Digital Spy, “I think it’s just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise. To be honest, I don’t even know what we’re reshooting at the moment. So I couldn’t really tell you much about that one.”

Declining to divulge what’s going on behind the scenes Turner continued, “All I know is that I’ll be back in Montreal at some point soon.” Looking at the bright side of the movie’s delay, she said, “And that the Valentine’s Day release date is quite a positive thing, because Black Panther got released on Valentine’s Day. So we’re keeping positive about it.”

Given the box office disappointment of X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, Dark Phoenix is distancing itself from its predecessor. Evan Peters has promised it will be the most adult X-Men movie to date, and there’s a rumor that the franchise name may have been dropped from the title. However, with the first trailer reactions from CineEurope 2018 praising X-Men: Dark Phoenix, maybe those reshoots are just what the movie needed to rise from the ashes once again.

Opening Feb. 14. 2019, X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Ship as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
