Director James Wan Torpedoes False Trailer Rumors

Movies

Ever since filming wrapped on Aquaman back in October, rumors have been circulating regarding the film’s trailer, with the most recent reports suggesting the trailer was set to premiere at WonderCon this weekend. Those reports have since proven to be false and director James Wan took to Twitter early this morning to dispel rumors involving the trailer and the status of the film.

When it comes to the DC Extended Universe, it’s become the norm for rumors to form indicating a film is a mess when a trailer isn’t released early on. This is something every film, including last year’s Wonder Woman, has faced, and it’s partially because a majority of the films within the DCEU haven’t been well received upon release. Now, Aquaman director James Wan has taken to social media to try and quell any rumors surrounding the forthcoming film, by assuring fans that he has control over when the trailer is released, and that, contrary to reports, there was never any plan to release a trailer at WonderCon this weekend.

As Wan explained, there wasn’t any “nefarious reason” to withhold the trailer, and it wasn’t “pulled” from Warner Bros. WonderCon plans at the last minute. The trailer just wasn’t ready, and Wan isn’t willing to release something that can be dubbed “subpar.”

Hey friends, I usually do my best to avoid internet noises (especially fabricated distractions) but a teaser-trailer going out this weekend was never in the books — despite what some claim. It’s not because of anyone or any nefarious reason holding it back — IT’S ME. (1/3)

I am simply not ready yet to share. This movie is filled to the gills with VFX, and the process is as slow and laborious as a sea-slug! Yes, even shots for the trailers take forever to do, and I refuse to put out anything that might be construed as subpar. (2/3)

I know it seems like nothing much is brewing above the surface, but I can assure you, we’re working nonstop under the waves
