Discovery Lead Admits Adult Spock Is In Season 2

As fans wait for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, actor Soniqua Martin-Green teases the arrival of Michael Burnham’s adoptive brother, Spock, when the show returns.

The first season of CBS’ show blurred the line between old and new with a cliffhanger finale that revealed Captain Pike and the crew of the Enterprise in an off-screen cameo. Heading back to the ’60s, the Enterprise that Discovery crosses paths with is likely to contain some pretty famous Star Trek faces, but is Spock on board?

Speaking with Deadline, the Discovery lead revealed what’s next for Burnham and whether she will get to meet with Spock in Season 2.

“You know, Aaron Harberts, he said after the finale, on After Trek, that Season 2 was going to be about that line between science and faith,” confirmed Martin-Green. “He also said that there’s going to be a lot of family dynamic. It is the Enterprise in that shot. We all know who is on the Enterprise. You see Sarek and Burnham look at each other, and there you have it.”

While the show’s freshman year focussed on establishing Discovery within the Prime Timeline and tackling the likes of the Klingon War and Mirror Universe, Season 2 will be spreading its wings and tying closer to Gene Roddenberry’s original Star Trek TV series with some already established characters.

Aside from the action-packed episodes that dominated the first series, Martin-Green promises that there will be quieter moments for Discovery to unearth her family ties. James Frain portrayed Sarek in season 1, neatly filling the role of Spock’s biological and Burnham’s adoptive father. Producers have already compared Doug Jones’ Saru to being a cross between Spock and the level-headed Data, it is now time for the actual Spock to make his presence known on the sci-fi series.

It was already reported that the scientific Vulcan is set to appear in the Jonathan Frakes-directed second episode of season 2, but it was unclear whether Spock would be in adult form or as a child via flashback. Discovery has confirmed that Inhumans actor Anson Mount will play Captain Pike in Season 2, but there is still no news who will be playing Spock during the next run of episodes.

The showrunners acknowledge that the Enterprise twist was planned from the start, meaning the arrival of the likes of Pike and Spock have been in motion for quite some time. As for what the future of the show holds, there is every chance that a certain James T. Kirk rears his head at some point on Discovery. For the time being though, fans can focus on the Michael-Spock dynamic when the two siblings share some screen time in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2.

Available for viewing now on the CBS All Access streaming platform, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, Mary Chieffo, Jason Isaacs and Michelle Yeoh.
