Although the recent confirmation that iconic franchise character Lando Calrissian is pansexual undoubtedly surprised some fans, Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover thinks it makes perfect sense.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio alongside co-stars Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke and Paul Bettany, Glover was asked about comments by Solo co-writer Jonathan Kasdan about the “fluidity” of Lando’s sexuality.

“How can you not be pansexual in space?” Glover replied. “There are so many things to have sex with. I didn’t think that was that weird. Yeah, he’s coming on to everybody. I feel like if you’re in space it’s kind of like, the door is open! It’s like, [not] only guys or girls – no, it’s anything. This thing is literally a blob. Are you a man or a woman? Like, who cares? Have a good time out here.”

Despite playing a relatively minor role across the history of the Star Wars films Lando has become a fan favorite due in part to his expanded presence in related novels and comic books, as well as on the animated Star Wars Rebels.

Interestingly, Solo may not be the last we see of Glover as Lando. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has already planted the idea of a Lando spinoff movie somewhere down the line, and Glover has said he would be open to playing the character again.

As for his debut as Lando, Glover went on to explain how original actor Billy Dee Williams gave him some solid advice for how to play the character. Hoping to capture Williams’ performance from The Empire Strikes Back, Glover was told that Lando is first and foremost a charmer.

Directed by Ron Howard from a script by Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. They’re joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos, and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett. The film opens Friday nationwide.
