Funko Pop with Ready Player One, Deadpool and More

Movies

Every year, when New York Toy Fair rolls around you can expect several things from the Funko booth: surprising licenses, toys that make you smile and at least one new format that you never saw coming. This year was no exception, as the company continues to blow fans away with the sheer amount of new products they introduce each year, ranging from the wildly popular Pops to the new Savage World action figures.

While Funko definitely does a lot for our nostalgic sides, it also strives to get ahead of the curve when it comes to new films that may become big-time favorites. With that in mind, they’ve got a few different options for the imminent arrival of Steven Spielberg’s March 29-debuting adaptation of Ready Player One. Parzival, Aech, Art3mis, Daito, Shoto, Sorrento, Sixer, I-Rok and Iron Giant will all make their way into the Pop world. There will also be an action figure four-pack featuring Parzival, Aech, Art3mis and I-Rok that comes with weapons as well as an accessory pack of the Jade, Crystal and Copper keys.

Another major push from Funko will come in the form of It, which will receive a wide mix of toys and collectibles ranging from action figures and Super Cute Plushies to Vynl and Pops. A few other newer movies like Atomic Blonde and the Netflix-exclusive Bright will also enter the wonderful world of Pop later this year.

With something in the works for just about every single person on the planet, Funko also showed off brand new Pops based on a variety of films like Tommy Boy, Super Troopers, Jurassic Park, Grease and Princess Bride. Funko’s even rolling out a James Bond Pop in his trusty Aston Martin this spring!

Horror fans will be pleased to find that some of their favorite icons of the genre will make an entrance in a new idea from Funko called Savage World. Created with a design eye similar to the classic He-Man figures, this vision launched with the new Mortal Kombat toys that are available now. The company’s still figuring out how to roll the rest of them out, but you can see mock-ups for Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Leatherface and Pinhead, as well as characters from the Conan films.

The format will also feature a fantastic interpretation of ’80s animation favorites the Thundercats — you can see the painted versions of Mumm-Ra and Lion-O, plus early takes on Jackalman, Cheetara, Slythe, Tygra, Monkian and Panthro.

While on the subject of beloved kid shows properties, ’90s Nickelodeon fixtures Rocko, Reptar, Ren and Stimpy will become Dorbz in the near future. Not far behind, The Jetsons, Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, Garbage Pail Kids and Rainbow Brite (with Twink, of course) will all get Pop-ified.

The ’90s nostalgia will continue with several Disney-themed offerings. Ducktales and Darkwing Duck Pops have already hit stores, but check out the Disney Afteroon-themed action figures of Darkwing Duck, Baloo from TaleSpin and Chip and Dale of Rescue Rangers fame! Of course, the House of Mouse inspired plenty of other collectibles including an Aladdin Pop set, new Moana Pops, more Monsters Inc. Pops, Nightmare Before Christmas additions and Dorbz of Winnie the Pooh’s crew as well as Pops of A Wrinkle In Time stars Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.

Current cartoon favorite Rick and Morty will also continue its dominance in all things Funko. From Pops and action figures to 12-inch Snowballs with Sound and Galactic Pick Plushies, the Adult Swim series will continue inspiring toys you’d risk disrupting the Space-time Continuum for.

The Golden Age of TV will continue fueling an equally rich age of collectibles in the new year with more Stranger Things and Game Of Thrones offerings. The latter’s next Pop wave will include punk Eleven, Steve with shades, Bob in scrubs, Billy at Halloween and Hopper in Vines as well as a new, smaller Dart Demogorgon as well as the continued rollout of the guys in their Ghostbusters costumes.

Meanwhile, the much-loved HBO series will mark its eighth wave of Pops with a white coat Daenerys, Davos Seaworth, Beyond the Wall Jon Snow and Daenerys on Dragonstone Throne.

One of the more surprising, yet delightful, Pop lines will come in celebration of the seminal sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. The first wave will include the Will Ferrell character Gene “More Cowbell” Frenkle, Bill Hader’s Stefon, Tom Hanks’ David S. Pumpkins and a two-pack celebrating the Justin Timberlake/Andy Samberg digital short, “Dick In A Box.”

One more television series will break into the Pop field this year, and it’s got comic ties. That’s right, Smallville will kick off with a five-figure wave including Clark Kent with Superman shirt revealed under his button down shirt, Lex Luthor in a snazzy white suit, shirtless Clark with the “S” on his chest, Green Arrow and Lois Lane!

Across the comic book pond, Deadpool will continue his media onslaught in support of the May 18 sequel, as well as his many comic book appearances. You’ll be able to choose from Pops, Vynls, Mystery Minis and plushes. Highlights include the Cable Pop and Vynl and the Reclining and Bob Ross Deadpool Pops.

In other Marvel news, movie Valkyrie will join the ladies of Rock Candy, Gladiator Hulk will become a Wacky Wobbler and House of Ideas video games like Future Fight and Contest of Champions will earn Pop representation. The former game will see Sharon Rogers and Amadeus Cho get in on the action, while the latter’s Howard The Duck in a mech, King Groot, Guillotine, Civil Warrior and Venompool will also see figures made.

Before fully moving into the wild world of video game toys, let’s take one second to dig into the Saga Pops. The critically acclaimed Image Comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples will see figures made of Marko, Alana, Prince Robot IV, Lying Cat and The Will, who will also come with a chase of him with blood splatter.

As mentioned, video games also had a huge presence at Funko’s booth. Feast your eyes on all of this from Five Nights At Freddy’s, Cuphead, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Halo Destiny and Lara Croft.

Finally, let’s play this post out with the latest additions to the Pop Music line. In addition to current pop sensation Ed Sheeran, you can also get your hands on Mötley Crüe. For extra fun, get them all and try to figure out what they would sound like on stage together!
