Death returns for Laurie Strode as the first set of official photos and plot details from the Halloween revival have been unveiled.

Ahead of Friday’s trailer debut, Blumhouse Productions has released the first official images from the set of their upcoming revival of the iconic slasher franchise. Ignoring the events of all but the 1978 original horror classic, the photos show original Halloween series star Jamie Lee Curtis back in action as definitive scream queen Laurie Strode taking on serial killer Michael Myers once again.

“I recognize that it will be my biggest contribution,” observed Curtis in an interview with USA Today regarding her return to the role that made her an international superstar. “Despite writing books for children, all of my advocacy, all of my politics, all of my own personal journey, my legacy will be Halloween.”

Taking place forty years after Myers’ infamous killing spree, the serial killer becomes the subject of a British true crime documentary. When the film crew visits the imprisoned Myers as part of their production, the murderer escapes, retrieves his now-weathered mask and seeks revenge on Strode.

Unfortunately for Myers, this time Strode is ready for him.

“In this case, she is well-matched, she is prepared, she is focused,” Curtis revealed about Strode’s character evolution since the original film. “She will be the one people are standing behind when that moment comes, because she’s the one ready.”

For director and co-writer David Gordon Green, one of the major draws to the project was bringing back the franchise to its “simple, clean, scary and excellent” roots.

“He’s the essence of evil, so we don’t want to get too much into the specifics of what makes him tick. So much of what makes the boogeyman horrifying to me is the mystery and almost cat-like mannerisms and curiosity of this character,” Green said regarding streamlining the character of Michael Myers and the series continuity. “I started finding limitations instead of opportunity, and thinking, ‘If there was a little bit of a clean slate to take it in a direction I selfishly as a huge Halloween fan wanted, where would I go?’”

Debuting on October 19, the latest Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green, from a script written with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak.
