Should Oscar-nominee Margot Robbie get her way, when Birds of Prey enters production in the new year, it’ll feature a diverse cast of heroes by her side.
In a new interview with Yahoo! for her film Terminal, Robbie talked about the Harley Quinn-led Birds of Prey, and how it’s important that the film properly represents the world in which we live by hiring a diverse cast for the remaining heroes. As the star explained to the outlet, “Real life isn’t so one specific image. We’ve got to reflect that onscreen.”

Robbie, of course, was said to be part of the reason why Warner Bros. opted to hire Cathy Yan, a non-white, female director, to helm Birds of Prey. So, it’s not entirely surprising then that the actor is continuing her push for diversity — this time in front of the screen. It remains to be seen just which heroes will join Harley Quinn in the film outside of Batgirl, who is set to appear ahead of her own solo flick, however, Black Canary and Huntress are rumored to be a part of the film’s line-up.
Robbie also confirmed that her character will sport a new look in the team-up film, although she couldn’t divulge any further details as to what fans can expect from her new duds. “No, honestly [it’s] because the costumes haven’t been designed yet but yes she’ll have new looks.”

Birds of Prey is set to be directed by Cathey Yan from a script by Christina Hodson. It’s believed that the project, which has been fast tracked by Warner Bros., will replace the previously announced Gotham City Sirens, which was in development with Suicide Squad David Ayer set to direct the feature. As of right now, Birds of Prey does not have a release date.
