Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s Fast & Furious spinoff, tentatively titled Hobbs and Shaw, has added Idris Elba to play the film’s primary villain.

Some of Elba’s most recent acting roles include playing Heimdall in Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok and The Dark Tower, along with bad guy roles in Star Trek: Beyond and lending his voice to Shere Khan of The Jungle Book.

Rumored to be titled Hobbs and Shaw, after Johnson and Statham’s Fast & Furious characters — special agent Luke Hobbs and former franchise-criminal Deckard Shaw, respectively — the spinoff is slated to follow the duo after the former rivals joined forces and became friends in the long-running action franchise’s latest installment, The Fate of the Furious.

Hobbs and Shaw, the Fast and Furious spinoff will star Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham and is expected to hit theaters on July 26, 2019. The script was written by Chris Morgan, who has been involved with the series since its inception, having written six of the eight installments for the Universal franchise. Deadpool 2 director David Leitch will helm the film.
