Director James Wan wants to clear up confusion surrounding his upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, telling fans they shouldn’t believe everything they read online.
The popular fighting game franchise was joined in 1995 by a critically panned but commercially successful movie that spawned two TV series and the maligned Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. With the Saw and Aquaman director moving ahead with a planned reboot, fans still don’t know what to expect from the project.

There has been a flurry of news surrounding the project recently, but Wan clarified on Twitter that Mortal Kombat isn’t as far into development as some outlets suggest.

Although reports of location scouting and casting calls are hearsay, Wan’s use of “yet” suggests Mortal Kombat remains in development. Fans responded on social media, with most showing an admiration for Wan taking his time to get the property right.
