Although Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen is among the most acclaimed comics all time, Director Zack Snyder’s 2009 adaptation proved polarizing, despite its (relative) faithfulness to the source material. However, actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who starred as the Comedian, continues to praise the film in terms that would make even Doctor Manhattan smile.
While speaking with Variety at the red-carpet premiere of Rampage, the actor had nothing but love for Snyder’s R-rated superhero feature.

“I’m very proud of that movie,” said Morgan, who now stars as Negan on The Walking Dead. “People are still finding it and watching it, and I think it’ll have fans forever. I think it was ahead of its time, and again, I don’t know what else to say other than I’m extremely proud of it. Not long ago, I caught like, the second half of the film just flipping channels and loved it. It’s great.”

Watchmen earned a 64 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and was praised for its visuals and tone. However, the film was criticized because “its complex narrative structure may make it difficult for it to appeal to viewers not already familiar with the source material.” The film also received a director’s cut, which is something that Snyder’s fans are still hoping to see for Justice League. Meanwhile, a television adaptation of Watchmen is heading to HBO, overseen by showrunner Damon Lindelof.

Morgan is known by many for playing The Walking Dead’s brutal villain Negan on the popular AMC show, but he also worked again with Snyder on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which he briefly appeared as Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne. There were rumors he would reprise that role in an upcoming movie inspired by the Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert comic Flashpoint, but it’s now nclear what the plans are for the DC Extended Universe’s first Flash movie.
In Flashpoint, it’s a young Bruce Wayne who’s shot and killed in Crime Alley instead of his parents, Thomas and Martha. The tragedy turns Thomas into a violent version of Batman, while Martha becomes the Joker. Only time will reveal whether the actor will get to one day play the Flashpoint version of the Dark Knight on the big screen.
