If one of the producers of Justice League had his way, Mile 22 star Mark Wahlberg might have been cast as Green Lantern in the so-called DC Extended Universe.
The Warner Bros. film united Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg to stop an invasion of Earth by Steppenwolf and the armies of Apokolips. Although a flashback depicted a Green Lantern fighting alongside the Amazons, Atlanteans and Olympian gods thousands of years earlier, the fleeting reference was little more than an Easter egg, setting up the planned Green Lantern Corps movie.

However, according to Revenge of the Fans editor Mario Robles, producer Charles Roven originally wanted Wahlberg to appear in the film as a Green Lantern, presumably Hal Jordan.

Warner Bros. hasn’t addressed the assertion, but notice that Robles used a photo of Wahlberg in an office in which the head shots of the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are pinned to the wall. Wahlberg certainly would’ve been an interesting choice to play Hal Jordan, and fit neatly alongside the likes of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck.

Considering that Zack Snyder and Roven began casting most of the key players of the DCEU at the same time, it makes sense that the pieces for Jordan’s arrival were already being put in place. Roven has worked on DC movies since Batman Begins, but revealed early this year that he’s scaled back his role, explaining, “it was way too big a job for one producer to oversee.”
Although the upcoming Green Lantern Corps is set to feature Jordan and John Stewart, there’s been no news about who is being considered for the roles. Given that David Goyer’s Green Lantern Corps script has been scrapped in favor of Geoff Johns’ rewrites, fans are left in the dark about the direction of the planned 2020 feature.
