Netflix’s reboot of Lost in Space is expected to begin production on its second season in September.

The modern update of Irwin Allen’s classic sci-fi series is scheduled to return to Vancouver for principal photography from Sept. 4 through March 1. The announced production calendar comes nearly three months after a Season 2 renewal order came from Netflix this past May.

Reimagined with more modern sensibilities and a larger emphasis on scientific survival than its 1960s inspiration, the new Lost in Space is developed by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The series follows the Robinson family as they seek out new worlds for humanity to colonize only to be stranded on an increasingly inhospitable planet after a tragic accident. With their trusty companion Robot, the family must struggle to survive while avoiding the machinations of the sinister Dr. Smith (Parker Posey).

The creative team of Sazama and Sharpless had first revealed they had begun working on a second season for the series in April, nearly a full month before the show’s announced renewal. With the first season ending on a major cliffhanger, fans will finally get the chance to see the continuing adventures of the Robinson family as the series returns to production.

Streaming now on Netflix, the 10-episode first season of Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, Ignacio Serricchio, and Parker Posey. While there is no official premiere date for Season 2, it is expected to be released sometime next year.
