Despite a poorly received first season, fans were eager to see Iron Fist meet up with his fellow Hero for Hire, Luke Cage, in Netflix’s The Defenders. And they did, albeit rather as a reluctant team than the lovable duo fans have come to know from the comics. Thankfully, with a second season of The Defenders seeming unlikely, fans will at least get to see the two team up again in Luke Cage season two – and it looks as though a possible Heroes for Hire series isn’t off the table either.
In a recent interview with Empire’s Pilot TV, Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker was asked about the possibility of a Heroes for Hire television series. While Coker doesn’t outright say it’s something that is being considered, he does suggest that those involved with the Netflix shows know there is a desire to see the Heroes for Hire come together and it’s “really not off the table.”

“Internally at Marvel Television, everybody knows there’s a part of that combination that is inevitable, particularly when you watch them together in the way that we did it. If feels right. It feels good. It feels like, ‘I want to see more of this combination. Heroes for Hire is really not off the table.’”
Coker’s comments come at a time when Disney is readying to launch their own streaming service in 2019, which was thought to effectively end the possibility of any further Marvel Television projects at Netflix. In fact, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos even confirmed that they would not be adding any new Marvel series to their line-up going forward. Of course, with the characters having already debuted in their own solo shows, a potential Heroes for Hire spinoff is a possible grey area. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll happen officially, though, and Marvel and Netflix could instead opt to allow for more crossovers between Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
After all, when asked whether he’d heard about a possible Heroes for Hire spinoff, Luke Cage actor Mike Colter was quick to note that was “above his pay grade,” but that the two worked well together. “Me and Finn get along rather well, we’re pretty cool,” he explained. “I think our characters play well off each other.”
