Netflix Mocks Avengers: Infinity War's Thanos

Ever since Thanos made his first appearance in the mid-credits scene for 2012’s The Avengers, the Mad Titan’s cinematic design has continually been tweaked leading up to his official debut in Avengers: Infinity War. And while fans have often joked about the villain’s visual changes throughout the years, the criticsim has mainly been limited to fans. However, it appears Netflix is ready to join the conversation.

The official Netflix Twitter shared a screencap of Thanos in the Avengers tag, as well as a still from the Mad Titan’s arrival in Infinity War. While the color of his skin has lightened with each new appearance, it’s not the only big change made to the character’s appearance since his big tease. Along with the screencap was the message, “Doctors hate him! Local dad’s transformation has half the world in shock.”

So, what’s with the massive transformation? When Thanos’ appearance in The Avengers was shot, Marvel Studios was still a ways off from officially casting an actor to portray the Mad Titan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, director Joss Whedon opted to bring in actor Damion Poitier as a stand-in to pose as Thanos. However, once Josh Brolin was cast in Guardians of the Galaxy, the character’s physical appearance began to shift as the filmmakers had a better idea on how they wanted to present the character — such as with human eyes — and worked to tweak the image to blend with Brolin’s own features, resulting in the Thanos we come to know and fear in Infinity War.
