Image Comics’ urban fantasy Skyward is set to take flight in a big way now that the movie adaptation planned over at Sony Pictures is to be helmed by Rampage director Brad Peyton.

The comic, written by Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson and drawn by Lee Garbett, focuses on a young woman named Willa who’s trying to survive in a world where gravity suddenly becomes a fraction of what it is now. This occurs due to a mysterious event called G-Day, which has drastically altered the fate of mankind.

“Jeff and I are focused on making event films — regardless of budget or scope,” Peyton told Variety. “Skyward is a big one. We’re very excited to deliver on what an anti-gravity movie should deliver on and be working with Joe Henderson on this.”

Willa’s journey results in her going on to find out her father, Nate, may have all the tools necessary to return gravity to normal, as he was one of the scientists initially involved in studying G-Day before it took place. Along the way, she discovers his ex-business partner, Roger, may have had a sinister hand in the occurrence.

Henderson will serve as an executive producer, too, with Peyton and Jeff Fierson also taking on producing roles.
