Star Trek 4: Is George Kirk Still Alive?

Movies

Outside of the fact that S.J. Clarkson has been named as the franchise’s first-ever female director, little is known about the upcoming fourth Star Trek film set within the Abramsverse. However, it’s possible that Jennifer Morison, who played James Kirk’s mother Winona in the 2009 film, just revealed a major spoiler about the fate of her on-screen husband George.

At Calgary Expo this past weekend, Star Trek Voyager star Garrett Wang moderated a panel featuring Morison, and when he mentioned George Kirk’s death, the actress was quick to correct Wang.

“As an actor, I think it is incredibly difficult to play the role of a mother who just gave birth to James Tiberius Kirk, knowing that your husband is 36 seconds away from death, basically…” Wang began before Morison cut him off and said, “Supposed death.”

It’s no secret that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as George Kirk in Star Trek 4 and cross paths with his son, played by Chris Pine. However, until now, it seemed likely that the film would use familiar concepts such as time travel or parallel universes to reintroduce the elder Kirk, though if he truly never died, that certainly changes things.

Justin Lin took over the series after J.J. Abrams rebooted it, helming the third film, Star Trek Beyond, but after its global box office take of $353 million was found to be underwhelming by Paramount Pictures, the studio initially held off on green-lighting a sequel.
