Star Wars Animated Short Expands Force Awakens Deleted Scene

With the “May the 4th Be With You” celebrations bringing joy to the hearts of Star Wars fans worldwide, Disney released a series of animated shorts from the Forces of Destiny catalogue.

One of the clips, titled ‘Perilous Pursuit,’ actually expands on a deleted scene from J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and as the name suggests, it focuses on a key speeder chase with the movie’s protagonists that didn’t make the final cut back in 2015.

It details the exploits of Finn and Rey (ironically wearing Poe Dameron’s jacket) as they escape the Starkiller Base, while navigating the terrain of the ice planet. However, things are, well, a bit complicated, seeing as they’re pursued by the First Order’s Snowtroopers. With Rey initially shooting and Finn piloting their speeder, the heroes realize their best chances of survival would be to switch roles to evade their enemies.

Given that Rey has already been seen as a capable pilot, and Finn’s a good shot — probably from his past as a Stormtrooper — the duo play to their strengths, eventually outwitting Kylo Ren’s minions in the ice forests. Of course, this deleted scene foreshadows the film’s rousing finale where Kylo severely injures Finn, only to be bested by Rey and her burgeoning Jedi abilities.
