Star Wars: The Last Jedi Novel Hints at Snoke's Past

A new report suggests that the origins of Supreme Leader Snoke will be explored in the upcoming novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Ever since J.J. Abrams introduced Snoke in 2015’s The Force Awakens, fans speculated about the mysterious villain. As fate would have it, Johnson didn’t follow up on this in The Last Jedi, giving us no insight into Snoke’s background, which culminated in Kylo Ren betraying his master and slicing him in half. However, if these new rumors are to be believed, we’ll soon be privy to some of the mysteries behind the way Snoke lived before his rise to power.

Star Wars news site Dork Side of the Force reports that Snoke once connected with a younger Luke, who was searching for Jedi lore. Both sought a deeper knowledge of the Force and didn’t realize the threat they posed to each other. This search for enlightenment allegedly gave Snoke a deep respect for the Jedi Master, although it’s uncertain if their ‘meeting’ was in person or via a Force vision. As for Snoke’s past, the site revealed he was a gifted user of the Force since he was young, even harnessing it to explore visions of his dark future ahead.

The rumors also hint that Snoke was so powerful, he was even able to conceal himself from Emperor Palpatine, and that the bloodthirsty strategist would go on to use Palpatine’s contingency plan — Operation Cinder — in the wake of his death to transform the fallen Empire into the First Order.
