Toy Fair 2018: Hasbro Marvel and Star Wars

Comics

For the annual New York Toy Fair, Hasbro went all-out once again with a presentation covering each of its collector-oriented properties. We got to see brand new offerings from Marvel and Star Wars up on screen, before heading downstairs to see them with our own eyes (and cameras).

Hasbro also spoke about the recent deal with Saban to become the master licensor for Power Rangers, and while they didn’t show off any Power Rangers goodies, they did reveal the name of the new series — “Beast Morphers” — and also noted that the toys will feature show-based products as well as a modern direction with nods to the brand’s 25-year history.

With so many Marvel movies and comic events in the works for 2018, it should come as no surprise that Hasbro’s looking to give film and comic fans plenty of options when it comes to the truly epic Marvel Legends line. The second wave of Spider-Man figures for the year will include an interesting mix, featuring House of M Spider-Man, the Kaine Scarlet Spider, a classic Doctor Octopus that will round out the Sinister Six, Cloak, Dagger, Elektra and black costume Daredevil. The Build-A-Figure will be Spider-Verse’s SP_dr. Note that the Cloak figure’s head and cape can actually be removed from the body to recreate the look of his partner using his inner portal. Also, dig that billy club effect on Daredevil!

You can definitely expect some Avengers: Infinity War figures to tie into the May 4 film — but we didn’t get a look at any. Instead, the Avengers line will also grow to feature new members like Ant-Man and Wasp versions of those characters, featuring spot-on Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly faces. Other figures will include a Black Knight with three different head options, and a classic comic version of Malekith in all his Dark Elf glory. Hasbro did not reveal the Build-A-Figure for this wave, so keep an eye out for that later in the year.

Though not currently tied into a film project, the X-Men series continues going strong with a nice mix of deeper cuts and longtime favorite designs. Madrox, Mohawk Storm, yellow-and-blue Wolverine, black-and-red Magneto, classic Sabretooth, Psylocke and the Apocalypse Build-A-Figure.

Hasbro’s even got a line inspired by the Venom film opening on Oct. 5. Venom and Carnage will, of course, make the cut along with Scream, Poison and a huge surprise in the form of Spider-Ham.

On May 18, the second Deadpool film will tear into theaters with a line of figures to go with it. In addition to an X-Men-themed Deadpool and a pantsless one (with fuzzy pink slippers) this wave will also include ’90s Bishop, Omega Red, Lady Deadpool and a Sauron Build-A-Figure with an incredible wing span!

Oh, and if you prefer to play as your favorite characters and not just with them, Premium Role Play has a nice pair of offerings coming up: a Black Panther mask and an Infinity Gauntlet! Both come with lights and sounds taken directly from their respective films. The mask even has flip-up lenses and the glove actually does move, thanks to some puppet-like controls inside.

As you probably know, this year marks the 10 year anniversary of Marvel Studios. Hasbro plans to celebrate with a series of single, two and three-packs that will cover some ground they missed in releases past. This will mean you can score an Iron Man two-pack of Tony Stark and the Mark I armor, Iron Man Mark VII from Avengers and an Iron Man 3 three-pack of the Hot Rod armor Iron Man, Pepper Potts and Mandarin.

The Marvel Studios First 10 Years will also include Ronan from Guardians of the Galaxy, the Hulkbuster Iron Man and Hulk from Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor and Sif from Thor: The Dark World and Crossbones and Captain America as seen in Captain America: Civil War.
