Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has opened up about his departure from Star Wars: Episode IX. In his comment, he revealed he spoke with George Lucas and Mark Hamill about his story outline for the next film and shared that he would “cherish” the experience, even though he was no longer part of the project.
“I don’t want to talk too much about it because I don’t want to affect the way that fans get to see these films,” he told Empire. “When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they’re made, the more it reveals that they’re just movies. But they’re not just movies, they’re more than that. Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

In 2015, the studio announced Trevorrow would direct Episode IX and thereby conclude the newest trilogy. However, the filmmaker departed the movie in September 2017. Shortly thereafter, Lucasfilm released a statement that claimed everyone involved had “mutually chosen to part ways.”
Following Trevorrow’s exit, several other efforts have been made to rewrite the script. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is currently working on a new script with Chris Terrio. Directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: Episode IX is set to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2019. The movie will star Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron.
