What We Do In The Shadows Gets Series Order From FX

TV

FX has officially ordered a television series based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows. The new half-hour comedy series will premiere in spring 2019, with the first season consisting of ten episodes.

Although the original film was set in New Zealand, the spin-off will follow its own group of vampire roommates in New York City. The TV show stars Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) as Laszlo, Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker) as Nandor, Natasia Demetriou (The Festival) as Nadja, and Harvey Guillen (Eye Candy) as Nandor’s assistant.

“What We Do in the Shadows only gets better with age thanks to this brilliant adaptation for television by co-creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi,” FX’s co-president of original programming Nick Grad told Variety. “Their feature version was a hilarious, fresh take on the mundanity of everyday life that even immortals must face. We are thankful to them, Paul Simms and Scott Rudin, and this amazing cast for taking us deeper into the shadows with this series.”

The series is a spin-off of the critically acclaimed film of the same name, which served as a mockumentary of vampires in modern times. What We Do in the Shadows starred Clement and Waititi, who also wrote and directed the feature. A proposed television spinoff was first announced back in 2016, though a pilot commitment wasn’t revealed for the project until this past January. Clement and Waititi will serve as executive producers on the series alongside Simms and Rudin.
