Where Exactly Star Wars Resistance Takes Place in Franchise Timeline

Fans of the cartoon series Star Wars Rebels didn’t have to mourn the end of the franchise’s latest venture into animated territory for long when it was announced that a follow-up series, Star Wars Resistance, was soon coming to Disney XD.

While it was confirmed that this new series would take place before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and feature such fan-favorite characters as Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and BB-8, we still didn’t know exactly when the series would fit into the franchise’s timeline — until now.

On Twitter, a devoted fan shared a finding he made on the Star Wars website. According to them, the coding behind the Star Wars Resistance page offers a brief synopsis that confirms exactly when the upcoming series fits into the timeline. The text reads: “Set about six months before The Force Awakens, Star Wars Resistance tells the story of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.”

Haven't seen this anywhere else. If you inspect Resistence page on https://t.co/dDkCx5APXe, it apparently confirms that #StarWarsResistance is going to take place around 6 months before #TheForceAwakens pic.twitter.com/F2NfPTXfhj

This would therefore mean that the events that will unfold in Resistance will be closely tied with The Force Awakens. Set only six months prior to the J.J. Abrams film, the animated series will not exactly tell the origins of the First Order, Poe Dameron and the Resistance, as previously theorized. Instead, it will almost function as an introductory chapter to the opening crawl of Episode VII.

In the one-hour premiere, titled “The Recruit,” Poe Dameron and BB-8 assign newly appointed spy Kaz to the Colossus, a massive aircraft re-fueling platform on an Outer Rim water planet, home to colorful new aliens, droids and creatures. While undercover, Kaz works as a mechanic and lives with Poe’s old friend Yeager, a veteran pilot who operates a starship repair shop run by his crew: Tam, Neeku and their old battered astromech droid, Bucket. Kaz soon finds himself in over his head with his new friend BB-8 as he’ll have to compete in dangerous sky races, keep his mission a secret from his newfound family, and avoid the danger of the First Order.
