Nine years after the release of the cult-favorite horror comedy, Sony Pictures is at long last reuniting the original cast for the sequel to Zombieland.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin are set to reprise their roles in a follow-up directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script by original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Cameras are expected to roll in January, with Zombieland 2 set for release in October 2019, in time for the 10th anniversary of the original.

In Zombieland, Eisenberg played a geeky college student attempting to travel from Austin, Texas, to Columbus, Ohio, in the months after a zombie apocalypse. He’s joined by Harrelson, Stone and Breslin in what becomes a cross-country road trip to the purported safety of a Los Angeles amusement park.

The road from the 2009 original to Zombieland 2 has been long, as the nearly decade-long gap would suggests. All the while, Wernick and Reese, now better known for their work on Deadpool and its sequel, remained steadfast in their insistence the film would be made, even as Fleischer’s confidence wavered.

The writers announced in August 2016 they were hard at work in the sequel’s script, and reassured fans just two months ago that the film was still in the works, but later swatted down rumors that it already been shot in secret.

Produced on a budget of $24 million, the original Zombieland earned more than $103 million worldwide.
