Eight weeks in and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther continues to astonish at the box office. As of today, the film has surpassed Titanic‘s (unadjusted) domestic haul of $659.3 million to become the third highest-grossing film within the United States.
The blockbuster film managed to pull in another $9.1 million this weekend — its eighth in release — helping to push the Marvel flick into the top three highest-grossing films stateside, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ $936.7 million haul and Avatar‘s $760.5 million. Internationally, the film is sitting at approximately $1.29 billion, which is enough to dub the film the tenth highest-grossing film of all time.

This achievement marks yet another milestone for Black Panther which has been breaking records ever since its initial release in February. Some of the records broken by Black Panther include the highest opening day ever for a non-team-up Marvel film, highest February opening weekend, and biggest opening for an African American director. And while Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce a sequel, surprising many, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has previously stated that they are “absolutely” making a sequel to the film, with the hope that director Ryan Coogler will return to helm the follow-up.
Next up for Black Panther and the Dora Milaje is the battle for Wakanda as Thanos and the Black Order make their way to technologically advanced nation to unleash terror against the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War later this month.
