Dwayne Johnson Says Black Adam Could Film in Late 2019

Dwayne Johnson has provided an update on Warner Bros.’ Black Adam.

After revealing that a script had been turned in to Warner Bros. in April for a 2019 production start date, Johnson clarified that the origin film for the iconic DC antihero won’t begin principal photography until at least late 2019. And, by the sounds of it, the most recent delay may be due to scheduling for the busy Hollywood actor.

“With Black Adam I don’t think we’re going to start early next year. Early next year right now it looks like I’m going to be shooting Jumanji and then, after that if everything goes well, I’ll shoot a movie called Red Notice with Rawson Thurber again with Gal Gadot,” Johnson told German news site Film Starts. ” But Black Adam possibly at the end of next year. It’s coming along great, the script is coming along great, we’re very happy with it.”

Johnson had originally signed on in 2014 to play the longtime Shazam antagonist, but it was announced in 2017 that the character would instead get his own film. While a script was being written, Johnson has become one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, and shows no signs of slowing down especially with a Jumanji sequel fast-tracked for a December 2019 release.

Johnson also hinted that Black Adam could include appearances by other familiar characters.

“Without giving anything away, there MIGHT be maybe a cameo or two [with] some of the other DC superheroes. We’ll see,” teased Johnson. “That’s been the beauty of Black Adam as we’ve been developing it in that we could make a movie that just stood on its own too as well, but that’s also the beauty of those universes coming together at DC.”
