Fan Poster Collects Almost 200 Terrifying Stephen King References

Movies

Stephen King is always in style. Due to his preternatural proficiency as a writer, it is impossible to consider a time when King will not have either a bestselling book, movie or series adaptation topping charts. Now, you can even add King to your wall. Artist Jordan Monsell has created the ultimate art piece for the ultimate Stephen King fan — and it is a fun puzzle to boot.

Created for this year’s Monsterpalooza convention in Pasadena, CA, Monsell has put together a poster title King’s Country that references 171 of Stephen King’s stories and features a couple of personal Easter eggs including King’s Bangor, Maine home, a Castle Rock/Derry sign and the Haven lighthouse. Though a true King fan will want to see how many of the references they can decipher on their own, Monsell does include a key shedding light on just what everything means.

Monsell says the poster’s style was fittingly inspired in part by the macabre artists Pieter Bruegel and Hieronymus Bosch. Interestingly, outside of King’s poetry, essays, non-fiction, screenplays and collaborations, Monsell’s one reference exclusion is to Rage, an early novel published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman that depicts a school shooting. King wrote the book while in high school and asked that his publisher cease printing the book after it was linked to several school shootings. Not surprising to leave out a reference even the author would wish to avoid.

Anyone in the Los Angeles area looking to get their hands on one of Monsell’s 16×20 prints will find them at Table 97 at Monsterpalooza, April 13-15 at the Pasadena Convention Center. Cannot make it to Monsterpalooza? Keep an eye on Monsell’s Facebook page for information on buying prints at a later date.
