Hulu has passed on the live-action Locke & Key series based on the acclaimed IDW series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Charlton Cuse and management WME, along with IDW Entertainment, are shopping the series around and setting up screenings for streaming services like Amazon and Netflix.

Joel Stillerman (The Walking Dead) and Hulu senior vice president Craig Erwich were championing the project, which was greenlit in April 2017 with a pilot order. Since then, Randy Freer has taken over as CEO of Hulu, giving him final say on the deal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was Freer who ultimately passed on adapting the series.
Freer apparently didn’t like the show after Hulu allegedly paid to keep its writers’ room open following development of the pilot, and seven scripts were completed.

The drama was set to star Frances O’Connor as Nina Locke, who has her family move home following her husband’s death. The graphic novel, created by Joe Hill, centered on the three children of the Locke family, and the mystery surrounding their family home’s magical keys and the powers they acquired by interacting with them.
Hulu has seen recent success with the comic adaptation Marvel’s Runaways, as well as an adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale, which received numerous television awards.
