Jason Momoa Has Already Pitched Aquaman 2’s Opening

Aquaman won’t hit theaters until later this year, but that hasn’t stopped the film’s star Jason Momoa from pitching the first scene of a potential sequel.

“I definitely have an opinion,” Momoa told TotalFilm about the direction of the series going forward. “Even when we were shooting Aquaman, I have the opening of Aquaman 2 ready. I went in and pitched it to [producer Peter] Safran, and I pitched it to [Warner Bros. chairman] Toby Emmerich. They loved it. It’s awesome…But yeah, I have plans for Aquaman 2.”

In the same interview, director James Wan explained how Aquaman lays the groundwork for other stories, saying, “There’s definitely stories, even within the world we’ve created, that you can actually see other storylines [spinning off from] as well. There’s the Aquaman story, but then there’s the stories of the seven different kingdoms as well. I think those would be very fun to explore.”

An Aquaman sequel is by no means a foregone conclusion at this point. The film’s performance at the box office later this year will play a major role in how DC Films chooses to go forward with its DC Extended Universe. Early reaction to the film has been positive, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that fans will turn out to see it. However, Momoa seems confident in the chances of Warner Bros. greenlighting a follow up movie, and the the positive reactions of Safran and Emmerich to the actor’s pitch mean that his idea might just make it into the film.
