Mark Hamill Hints He'll Return in Episode IX

Mark Hamill has teased a highly-anticipated return for Luke Skywalker in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX.

The actor tweeted out artwork featuring his famous death scene from Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but this time with the iconic line Han Solo taught him: “See you around, kid.” Since he captioned the photo “Foreshadowing,” this suggests that he’s preparing to return to the world of Star Wars.

In The Last Jedi, Luke used up all his energy to Force-project to Crait and trick Kylo Ren into battle, cleverly buying time for Leia’s rebels to escape. When Kylo finally figured out his uncle’s ruse, Luke told him, “See you around, kid” and disappeared. At that same time, the Jedi faded away into a dual sunset on the ocean planet of Ahch-To, becoming one with the Force.

If Hamill does indeed return in Episode IX, he’ll likely follow the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda to appear as a Force ghost. Given that Kylo killed Supreme Leader Snoke and will be using the First Order to hunt Rey and the Rebels even more relentlessly, Master Skywalker may be needed to pass down some much-needed knowledge to the new generation of Jedi.

Episode IX is set to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2019. The movie will star Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron.
