Disenchantment, the new animated series by Matt Groening coming to Netflix in August, now has a teaser trailer giving audiences a look at the fictional world of Dreamland.
The adult comedy takes places within a medieval fantasy setting, centering on the Princess Bean (voiced by Abbi Jacobson) and her companions, a demon named Luci (Eric Andre) and an elf named Elfo (Nat Faxon). The king of Dreamland also features in the trailer, insulting the appearance of a prisoner brought to him until she’s revealed as his own shame-faced daughter.
Groening is, of course, co-creator of The Simpsons, the long-running scripted series about a modern American family, and Futurama, the beloved sci-fi comedy. The Disenchantment trailer points out the major difference of the new show, referring to its theme as the “past,” which rounds out “the future” in Futurama and “the present” of The Simpsons.

Fans will notice the tributes to the other shows in the aerial entrance of the trailer. It opens first on the moon and then dives through a cloudscape resembling the familiar introduction to The Simpsons, before finally centering on the castle in Dreamland. Groening’s distinctive style can also be seen in the pop-eyed and buck-toothed faces of the characters, although the traditional animation is supported by some 3D scenery.
Disenchantment is Groening’s first show on Netflix. The 10-episode first season will arrive Aug. 17.
