Pennyworth Might Begin Production This Fall

Epix’s Batman prequel series Pennyworth is moving forward.

According to Omega Underground, production on the pilot is expected to begin sometime this fall or winter. As the show will take place in London, it is also likely that filming will take place in the U.K. While an exact date has not been given, this is good news for fans who have been waiting to hear more about the show and for fans of Gotham, Fox’s current Batman prequel series, which will conclude after next season.

While the new series will not be connected to Gotham, two executive producers from the Fox show will take the reigns on Pennyworth: Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller. The pair will work on the origin series to explore a side of Alfred that many audiences haven’t seen before. Notably, Gotham has referenced the character’s past life quite often.

Last month, the network gave a 10-episode straight-to-series order for Pennyworth, which will take place in the 1960s and focus on a young Alfred Pennyworth as the former SAS operative — and future butler and confidante of Bruce Wayne — begins his secretive work with Thomas Wayne in England.

Pennyworth has not announced a cast yet, nor a series premiere date.
