Ryan Reynolds Pushes For Deadpool to Appear in Fast & Furious Spinoff

Ryan Reynolds commits to the role of Deadpool, both in and out of the movies. His latest foray into Wade Wilson’s fourth wall-breaking sensibilities involves lobbying for Deadpool to join the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Following the announcement that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch will helm the Fast and Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, Reynold offered a friendly reminder on Twitter, writing, “You promised Deadpool was in this. You said I get to play the no-nonsense Police Chief, who yells at Hobbs for crashing his 58 valve Nissan Sentra into an Olive Garden. Put me in coach.”

Of course, this is Reynolds’ playful way of saying “congratulations.” But, to be honest, a Deadpool-Fast and Furious crossover doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Both franchises feature characters who live on the edge and balance their action with humor. It also works because Deadpool can comment on pop culture in a way his fellow Marvel characters can’t. Just a look at the promotion for the Deadpool franchise, which has featured references to Flashdance, Burt Reynolds, rom-coms, the Coppertone Girl, Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam, and Norman Rockwell’s Freedom from Want. It’d be interesting to see what observations Deadpool would make in a Fast and Furious world.

Alongside Reynolds, Deadpool 2 stars Zazie Beetz, Terry Crews, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, T.J. Miller and Bill Skarsgård. The film arrives in theaters May 18.
