Tom Hiddleston Was Told About Loki's Death in Infinity War in 2016

Avengers: Infinity War opened with some heartbreaking losses, as Thanos and his Black Order fell upon the Asgardian refugee ship, but none was more deeply felt by Marvel Cinematic Universe fans than the death of Loki, choked by the Mad Titan himself.

But, given the nature of the god of mischief, who, after all, was presumed dead once before, some speculated the trickster could spring back to life in Avengers 4. However, that seems unlikely, as actor Tom Hiddleston revealed he’s known about Loki’s fate in Infinity War for quite a while.

“So, I’ve known about that scene for two years,” he revealed over the weekend at ACE Comic Con in Seattle. “I met with Marvel in May 2016, and they were actually telling me the story of Ragnarok with concept art and images. The Russos came in, and I introduced myself. So, all four of us sat down, and they said this is how Infinity War begins.”

Knowing how Loki redeemed himself in Thor: Ragnarok, it’s clear this was an arc Marvel Studios planned early on. After finally reconciling with his brother and the rest of the Asgardians, Loki sacrificed himself in a desperate attempt to save Thor. That moment not only gave finality to the character, but let the audience know that Thanos wasn’t messing around.

There’s still a slight chance that Loki could return, but because his arc ended so intentionally on that note in  Infinity War, it seems unlikely we’ll see the god of mischief again.

Now in theaters, Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klemtieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin.
