It is official: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is now Sony Picture’s highest grossing film — ever.
Surpassing the 2002 Spider-Man’s domestic box office take of $403.7 million, The Wrap reports that the psuedo-sequel to 1995’s Jumanji has cleared the hurdle and grossed a bit over $403.7 million.

Welcome to the Jungle also marks the highest-grossing domestic release for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, which is quite the feat considering that Johnson is now a key player in the The Fast & Furious franchise, a series that does very well for itself at the box office.
The film, directed by Jake Kasdan, is also Sony’s biggest studio-owned film in history, with a worldwide take of around $950 million. As far as all of Sony’s releases go, Skyfall still holds the top spot as a co-production with MGM. Skyfall‘s worldwide take finished around $1.1 billion.

“Given the length of Columbia Pictures’ esteemed history, this is a cool milestone,” Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group said. “It’s a great credit to Jake Kasdan, all the producers, the terrific actors, and everyone at the studio who worked so hard. It gives us a grand target to shoot for with the next one.”
The news comes just hours after Johnson confirmed that a Jumanji 3 is in development.
