Guardians of the Galaxy‘s James Gunn to pen and possibly direct for Warner Bros., which must mean the film’s previous hire Gavin O’Connor is out. According to Justin Kroll of Variety, O’Connor — who initially joined the project a little over a year ago — opted to exit Suicide Squad 2 following frustrations he had with the studio. O’Connor had been and was hard at work on the project for the past year. Unfortunately, during that time, Warner Bros. decided to fast track Birds of Prey, another Margot Robbie-led film, which is said to have shared a similar plot with O’Connor’s script — so much so that the projects ended up almost “identical.” RELATED: On the Gavin O'Connor front in relation to SS2, hearing the story he had for the sequel ended up almost being identical to the BIRDS OF PREY story and when that film was given the go ahead to go before SQUAD 2, O'Connor grew frustrated and fell off project to do HAS BEEN instead — Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) Suicide Squad 2 has suffered many setbacks since it was initially announced. The first film, which was a critical dud, managed to perform well at the box office and led to Warner Bros.’ decision to “fast track” a sequel. However, following Justice League‘s poor box office performance, the studio’s initial release schedule shifted quite a bit and the the sequel no longer became a priority. Birds of Prey, on the other hand, did. RELATED: It’s unclear just how the two projects would have been identical. While casting is beginning to amp up on Birds of Prey, little information has been revealed outside of the fact that Harley and her crew will need to save Cassandra Cain from Black Mask. There is currently no release date for Suicide Squad 2. The post appeared first on .

For a number of years now, Sony has been toying with the idea of producing a full-blown film franchise based around the various characters made famous by Marvel’s Spider-Man mythos (0ther than Spidey himself, of course.) Now that Venom has been unleashed, bagging box office records in the process, it seems that the “Spider-Verse” is truly about to begin in earnest. RELATED: It was that the next installment in Sony’s new franchise following Venom would be a film based on the classic Spider-Man villain/supernatural anti-hero , which is set to star Jared Leto as the titular character. Sony producer Avi Arad revealed the film could begin production as early as this February. “More or less, February?” Arad told when asked when filming for Morbius would begin. “Yeah, the plan is early part of next year,” fellow Sony producer Matt Tolmach added. “We’re still working on it. With the start of production for Morbius apparently just around the corner, it will certainly be interesting to see what new flavor it will bring to the Spider-Verse, as well as how it will contrast against Venom in terms of content and visuals. RELATED: After all, whereas Venom began life as a Spider-Man doppelganger and evolved into a horror-esque monster over time, Morbius was that type of character from day one. How this is represented on the big screen will likely be a huge talking point going forward. Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff film Morbius will be directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. The film does not currently have a release date. The ratings for ’s Season 9 premiere were a historic low for the series. The Walking Dead, which entered its ninth season this week, had the smallest number of live viewers of any season of the show. reports that the premiere achieved a 2.5 rating among adults ranging from 18-49. This actually puts it below the series premiere, which managed to earn a 2.7 in 2010. It’s also a 50 percent drop even just from the premiere for last year. RELATED: This is the lowest viewership for the once-ubiquitous show has been since the critically-panned second season. While the current rating doesn’t account for late or recorded viewings, it’s unlikely that the episode will even come close to prior premieres. With Andrew Lincoln leaving the series this season and the character of Rick Grimes being subsequently written off the show, the series has to find a way to reengage its viewership. RELATED: Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Last week, a report surfaced broke that by an unnamed screenwriter. While the future of the MCU following next year’s Avengers 4 is still largely unclear, the possibility of a villainous inversion of Marvel’s premier superteam certainly offers an intriguing thought about where the cinematic universe could go next. That having been said, the MCU’s various original series on Netflix may have already been quietly laying the foundation for their own supervillain ensemble to possibly team up and take on the Defenders. As opposed to the films of the MCU, which have a habit of killing off many of their principal antagonists, the Marvel Netflix series has retained the majority of their villains, leaving open the possibility of them returning in the future. And, just like the comic book incarnation of the Dark Avengers, these Dark Defenders would be familiar faces with similar power sets to their heroic counterparts, setting up a climactic battle between both teams with all the street-level heroes facing each other’s villains after seasons of escalating grudges. RELATED: Bullseye has been one of Daredevil’s greatest enemies as much as the Kingpin since his creation in 1976’s Daredevil #131 written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by John Romita, Sr. Responsible for the deaths of Elektra and Karen Page, the uncanny marksman with the superhuman ability to throw any object with lethal accuracy and force quickly became one of Matt Murdock’s most personal foes, and even masqueraded as Hawkeye as part of the Dark Avengers for a time. With in the third season of Daredevil, the new villain of Hell’s Kitchen could be part of an ensemble organized and financed by Wilson Fisk to root out the Man Without Fear and his allies for good. Additionally, as he did in the comics, the villain will impersonate Daredevil to discredit the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in the eyes of the authorities and general public. Hold they decide to make their play even bigger, the nefarious duo would certainly not be at a loss of potential recruits to enlist in their sinister crusade. RELATED: Both of Luke Cage‘s principal antagonists, Season 1’s Diamondback and Season 2’s Bushmaster, have survived, and are thus set up for possible returns to Harlem. Given that Mustafa Shakir’s Bushmaster can stand toe-to-toe with Cage without the use of a powered exosuit like Diamondback (not to mention receiving a better fan response), he’s the more likely to return from his Jamaican exile, though Cage’s half-brother could resurface, even without the technological enhancement, given the personal nature of his connection to the Hero of Harlem. The latest Stephen King adaptation, , has released its first poster to ominous effect. An adaptation of the classic 1983 horror novel of the same name, the atmospheric poster shows a disturbed grave full of unsettling bones as a shadowy figure approaches it with a shovel in hand. RELATED: The novel was previously adapted in 1989 by director Mary Lambert with the film’s screenplay written by King himself. The story follows a young family that moves to a small town in Maine only to discover the pet cemetery near their home is on ancient burial land and will resurrect anything buried in it with sinister results. Last time we saw Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) at the close of Season 6, the superhero had traded in his green hood and bow for the garb of a prisoner. Queen struck a deal with the authorities that would save his friends from persecution, and now he was bound to be locked up in a supermax prison filled with inmates the Green Arrow helped put away. Now, thanks to a new trailer for the Season 7 premiere of the series, we know that trouble will come for Oliver and his friends from all sides. Not only will the former vigilante fight to survive every single day of his stay in prison, but the threat of Ricardo “The Dragon” Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) is still looming over Star City — and he won’t be coming alone. RELATED: In the Season 6 finale, Diaz revealed that he had reached out to the Longbow Hunters, a legendary team of assassins that even Oliver and Diggle (David Ramsey) had heard about. Their identities were kept a secret, and it was teased that they had been around for a very, very long time. Well now, thanks to the new Season 7 trailer, we finally have our first look at the legendary assassins. In the comic books, the Longbow Hunters were a team put together by Richard Dragon to oppose the Green Arrow. The group included Count Vertigo, Brick, Red Dart, and Killer Moth, and they were led by Dragon himself. For Season 7 of Arrow, the Hunters will actually be different. Instead of being put together by Diaz, they appear to have a history prior to him, and he will only be the one to hire them. Plus, the series’ version of the team’s roster is different, given that it is comprised of Kodiak, seen as the Leader of the Shield Clan in the Green Arrow comic book storyline “The Outsiders War,” as well as The Silencer, an assassin who was just recently introduced as part of the New Age of DC Heroes. The only character bother versions of the team share is Red Dart. When the series returns next week, we should find out more about the secret history of the Longbow Hunters, and just what makes them so mythical. RELATED: Returning on Monday, Oct. 15 at 8 pm ET/PT for its seventh season on The CW, Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Echo Kellum as Mr. Terrific, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary and Katie Cassidy as Black Siren. Even as Jodie Whittaker made her official debut Sunday on as the first woman to play the Time Lord, she also became the first Doctor to be depicted in Barbie form. Her Thirteenth Doctor is now available for order from Mattel and other outlets, for delivery by Dec. 3, in plenty of time for the holidays. RELATED: The Thirteenth Doctor is, of course, is of course depicted as she appears on the hit BBC sci-fi adventure, with a rainbow-striped T-shirt, suspenders, cropped pants, hooded trench coat and lace-up (albeit plastic) boots, looking as if she just stepped out of the TARDIS. Naturally, she also comes with her distinctive sonic screwdriver, because … well, why wouldn’t she. See the images in the gallery below. Considering Mattel’s Barbie line has released dolls of Captain Kirk and Spock from Star Trek, Fox Mulder from The X-Files, Owen from Jurassic World, and the Man of Steel and Dark Knight from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we have to wonder what took the toymaker so long to get around to Doctor Who. Todd McFarlane’s big contribution to Image Comics in the ’90s was the creation of . The character has remained popular for so many years but the last time it was adapted into a major film was 1997. McFarlane has also spent the better part of the last twenty years trying to get another movie made. However, a new Spawn film is finally in the works from Blumhouse Productions, but it’s been a long road. Participating in a panel Sunday at New York Comic Con, Todd aired his frustrations with Hollywood’s inability to understand his artistic vision, revealing how he and the studios have different ideas about what Spawn should be. RELATED: McFarlane stated the problem is he wants Spawn to fit more into the horror genre while Hollywood sees it simply as a superhero movie. “Here’s what’s frustrating about this process,” he said, “Hollywood doesn’t get what I’m trying to do.” He added, “I can tell by the notes they gave they just don’t understand it.” The problem for him is getting studios to have faith in a comic book film that is R-rated horror and not a traditional superhero project that is PG-13, like the previous Spawn film was. McFarlane shared his thoughts on the upcoming Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix to illustrate the difference between what he considers dark and what Hollywood means by “dark.” “I don’t believe they’re going to deliver a scary Joker movie,” he said. “Warner Bros dark and my dark are two different things.” RELATED: He then added what he hopes to achieve with a new Spawn movie geared towards an adult audience, bring director Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker into the equation. “My dark means if you bring children to a Joker movie they will leave crying,” McFarlane said. The upcoming Spawn reboot marks creator Todd McFarlane’s directorial debut and stars Jamie Foxx as the title character with Jeremy Renner appearing as Twitch Williams. The film does not currently have an announced release date but is expected to begin principal photography soon. The post appeared first on .

However, exactly who he would play on the show was unknown until the panel at this weekend’s , where it was revealed Hamill would play Arnim Zola. “At episode 13, the show takes a shocking turn,” Marvel Animation VP Cort Lane told “Some amazing things happen and some horrible things happen and then Black Panther goes on a quest where he gets to meet Black Panthers from the past.” One of the first ancestors that T’Challa will meet will be the WWII Black Panther. The Mutant Underground has resurfaced in New York City. At New York Comic Con, stars Emma Dumont (Polaris), Sean Teale (Eclipse), Coby Bell (Jace Turner), Jamie Chung (Blink), Amy Acker (Caitlin Strucker) and Grace Byers (Reeva Payge) joined showrunner Matt Nick on stage to offer fans an inside look at Season 2, which is now airing on Fox. “The two biggest things this year are… there have been some turmoil in the news lately. Something about a divided country. The world of the X-Men is something that reflects a lot of the things that are going on in our world… We really wanted to use the show as a window onto what’s going on in our world right now. One of the really exciting things years is to see the rise of a divided country,” Nix explained. “We’re going to deal with the rise of the Purifiers.” “The other big thing that’s been fun this year is doing deep dives into our characters,” he continued. “We’re going to meet young Polaris this year. We’re going to see the history of the Frosts, or the Stepford Cuckoos. We get to see the background and where the people are coming from for everyone on stage… Really focusing on the characters and what they want and who they are.” “I don’t even think she’s bad, y’all! I just think she’s real passionate, you know what I’m saying? What I love is hat she’s not a one-dimensional character,” Byers shared. “She grew up in poverty. She’s biracial like myself. We really embraced those channels of diversity and intersectionality. She has clawed her way to the top… She’s tired of sitting on the sidelines and watching mutants be slaughtered.” “The difference between Polaris and Eclipse are there are differing ideologies… the place where [they’re] coming from is two wrongs don’t make a right,” Teale countered. “We’re fighting for coexistence instead of a mutant homeland, which is replacing one problem with another.” However, his character just “wants my lady and my baby.” “She’s in a snuggle puddle with her dog and John, There’s so much turmoil and chaos all around her… All good things may or may not come to an end! I think the ideology of what she truly believes I think will come into question as well as her identity. I feel like she’s having identity issues… We’re introducing the Morlocks into the season, and there’s something really appealing about their society and how they live… I think there’s a little push and pull with that element.” “Jace is having problems. He’s having problems. It’s true! his life is pretty much falling apart,” Bell revealed. “He still has that life mission of trying to get justice for his daughter, and now he has no one to help him with that. Along come the Purifiers, and things get really racist really quickly.” “He goes down a dark, dark path this season,” he added. “We’re really playing with a world of true believers. These are people who really believe in their positions… How do you join a hate group without ever sitting down and saying, ‘I’m joining a hate group!'” Nix pitched in. “Every step down that path seems like a reasonable path… You don’t wind up doing evil because you decided to do evil.” “With Jace, I don’t think he necessarily agrees with the Purifiers. He just needs them,” Bell said. “Polaris is on her own team,” Dumont said with a laugh. “You know what? Our show is really good at showing every point of view… Look, Polaris, an alpha female, she wanted to join a group of other strong women who want to take action and I don’t see a problem with that.” “It’s been a rough road. I feel like it’s all going to come around. I am ultra-driven this year to find Andy and, in the meantime, have neglected some other members of my family. For the most part, I think we’re all really excited to see the show… We never get to see it until the night you guys see it.” Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb, who moderated panel, then cued the first act of Tuesday night’s episode. Asked how the Disney/Fox merger will impact The Gifted, Loeb simply said that is not yet on the table. “Having the responsibility of creating and running the only live-action Marvel TV series that features the X-Men is an extraordinary responsibility and it’s something that Matt put on his shoulders… You can’t imagine the labyrinth of people that are up his nose every time he wants to write the word ‘the’ and he handles it amazingly.” “Let’s just say, in general, everything is out there to be determined at a future date,” Nix added. “We will see younger Blink this season,” he revealed. “The mythology of the show is that the X-Men have disappeared,” he explained. “Officially, no. Per Jeph Loeb, anything is possible. Wouldn’t that be exciting?” Asked about LGBT represtation on the series, he said, “I think that’s always in the background. One of the things that, when I look at how we’re writing stories, there’s so much crossover between those things. Specifically, those questions are more addressed with Reed’s storyline… There are just so many issues of oppression, different groups, that — in a nice way actually — that we can have those things overlap.” “I think we all can sort of agree that the best X-Men stories are the stories that teach us about tolerance,” Loeb added. The Gifted Season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The series’ showrunner is Matt Nix, and the cast includes Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz, Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont as Polaris/Lorna Dane, Blair Redford as Thunderbird/John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker, Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker and Skyler Samuels as the Frost Sisters.
